Users with special needs
Maribor Public Library follows general guidelines when it comes to including users with special needs:
- partnerships are established with various stakeholders in the local environment (disability associations, Slovene Philanthropy, Slovenian Institute of Adult Education, Hearing and Speech Center Maribor, other educational institutions, day-care centers, hospitals, representatives of people with disabilities association, etc.),
- people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups are involved in the design of library services,
- services are planned on the basis of an analysis of the communities in which the library branches are placed,
- training librarians and developing specific skills for working with special groups (hearing impairments, deafness, dyslexic, etc.),
- reacting proactively to social developments, adapting our programs to the target population: e.g. migrants, etc.,
- ensure that services are free of charge.
Regular services and programs provided for vulnerable groups by the Maribor Public Library are either continuous or intermittent, depending on the circumstances.
